Cyber Messes

I spend a lot of time on my computer. Whether I am passing time, chatting with friends, checking in on Momma sites, blogging, skyping with my family, or letting DJ bang away on my keyboard, my computer is a lifeline to those far away. But lately, there has been so much mess in my cyber-life that I am longing for the days of face-to-face interaction.
Facebook is a giant heap of words without back-up. No voice clues to determine the real meaning behind what is said. No filter that usually keeps people polite. Some feel like their empty status update boxes are places to bash others without remorse. After all, when you don't have to see someone, isn't it a lot easier to bash them? People post status updates about their every whim, wishes, daily lives, children, pregnancies, and emotions. Some look for attention, then complain when none is given. Others give shout outs to people they care about. Most just post about the randomness of their lives. Tid bits of information they think people might find interesting.

My family and friends far away are probably my #1 reason for my activity on Facebook. I post pictures of DJ so his grandparents can see how he is growing. I chat with a friend in Okinawa regularly, and one in Virginia as well. I share a link to my blog when I post something new because some on my friends list actually enjoy reading what I have to say. I share a bit about my pregnancy because a few of my friends and family genuinely care.

I don't have expectations for my Facebook. I'm not measured in "likes" or comments. They do not equal my worth as a person.

They shouldn't equal your worth, either.
