Week 18

Today was the start of week 18. I feel like my stomach has grown like crazy in these past few weeks. My clothing options are becoming very limited, so next paycheck I am going to set aside some money for new clothes.
This was a very exciting week. Dave and Julie had their going away party on Saturday night, and David go to feel the baby kick for the first time. We were hanging out in the kitchen and watching a game of beer pong, when the baby started moving a round a lot. So I rushed over to David and grabbed his hand to put on my belly. This, of course, stopped the game, so everyone got quiet to see what was going on, and if David would be able to feel anything. All of a sudden, I felt a little flutter. David's eyes got really wide, he ripped his hand away from my stomach, and put his ear to my belly. He looked at me (with huge eyes) and said. "Was that the baby?!?!". I told him yes, and he got the biggest, cheesiest grin on his face. It was a great moment.
On Monday we had out 16 week appointment, which was basically just a check-up to make sure the baby was still alive and well. We got to hear the heartbeat, which was amazing. On the way home, though, it finally hit me that I am going to have a baby. It's like a quote form the movie Juno: "Pregnancy usually results in an infant" (I'm paraphrasing). It is one thing to be pregnant, but a totally different thing to have a baby. This entire pregnancy, I have been focused on keeping my mind off being pregnant, just in case I have another miscarriage. Now, however, I have to realize that this baby is definitely sticking around. In March, I will be a Mom, and I will have my own tiny little family. It's mind blowing, crazy, wonderful, scary, and exciting at the same time.
How the baby is growing this week (taken from babycenter.com)
The baby is about 7 ounces, and the size of a bell pepper in length. She has one of a kind fingerprints, and is mastering the abilities to hiccup and yawn. If the baby is a girl, her fallopian tubes and uterus are in place. If the baby is a boy, his genitals are noticeable now.
I called and made an appointment for my 20 week sonogram the other day. As long as the baby cooperates, David and I should know the sex! It is scheduled for October 22 at 8:45 am!
As far as symptoms go this week, things are pretty much the same. New this week, though, is the extreme cramping. It sucks, but only happens a few times a day.
Hope everyone has a great week!

  1. Want to go shopping together? Maternity clothes are so much fun! They're like normal clothes, only bigger.
